Starting from the 2025/2026 season, the English championship will introduce several new media formats that will bring broadcasts closer to the American style. This is reported by The Guardian.
The most striking innovation is the ability to conduct flash interviews with players immediately after their substitution, still during the match. It is expected that the conversation with the player will take place at the edge of the field after he cools down a bit.
It is also permitted to film inside locker rooms, albeit with restrictions: for instance, cameras will not operate during the coach’s instructions. Operators with portable Steadicam cameras will be allowed on the field—for filming celebrations after goals, but only for a few seconds during pauses in the game.
The new rules are part of a massive broadcasting deal between the Premier League and Sky Sports and TNT Sports worth over £6.7 billion for four years. In exchange for the record contract, the broadcasters will receive more live matches (an additional +70 per season) and expanded access behind the scenes.
Some clubs, such as Arsenal and Manchester City, which already have contracts for their own documentary projects, may be reluctant to allow external cameras. However, the league has big plans: each club must give access to the locker room at least twice per season.
