The head coach of the Austrian Sturm, Christian Ilzer, told what he expects from the second leg of his team with Dynamo Kyiv in the 3rd qualifying round of the Champions League, which will be held tomorrow in Graz. Recall that the first meeting of the opponents ended with the victory of the Kiev team with a score of 1:0.
“In the first match against Dynamo, we wanted to achieve a result that would leave us real chances in the second leg. And we have achieved such a result. I'm sure of it.
As for our opponent, Dynamo plays at the level of a top club when they have the ball. Since almost every player of this team has the highest level of individual skill.
In addition, Dynamo is very resistant to pressure. The team played very cleverly against us in the second half of the first match. In the second leg, we need to be sharper in our pressing and improve penetration into areas from which we can create threats to the opponent's goal. It is also very important that we be efficient in the final stages of our combinations.
Of course, speaking about your actions, you should always remember that there is also an opponent on the field. Much on Tuesday will depend on whether we have the strength to take over the dominance, as we did in the match against Salzburg in the round before last of the Austrian championship. In any case, the main idea of our game is always attacking actions,” Ilzer said during the pre-match press conference held today in Graz.
The head coach of Sturm is also convinced that the fact that Dynamo is deprived of the opportunity to play the national championship matches due to the war does not indicate the weakness of Mircea Lucescu's team.
“Recently, Dynamo has played many test matches. Including against strong rivals, such as, for example, Borussia Dortmund and Lyon. In addition, Dynamo have already played three matches in the Champions League qualification. So our opponent is absolutely in the rhythm of the game,” Ilzer said.
