According to the source, the fears of senior Spanish officials are related to the recent scandal around Barcelona: the Catalan club is suspected of giving bribes to the former head of the Technical Arbitration Committee of the Spanish La Liga. This trial, according to the Spanish government, may lead to FIFA deciding to cancel the Spanish-Portuguese-Ukrainian bid for the 2030 World Cup.
It is also reported that the Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, instructed to comprehensively and openly investigate the case around Barcelona in order to maintain the degree of trust in Spain and the level of its reputation.
