I continue to tell you about the leading players of Kyiv Dynamo of different generations. Today in the centre of your attention is Viktor Serebryanikov, Honoured Master of Sports.
Was born in 1940. Played for Metalurg (Zaporizhzhya) 1956 - 1959, Dynamo (Kyiv) 1959 - 1971. Serebryanikov played 300 matches in the championship of the former USSR, scoring 70 goals in them. Viktor is a 4-time champion, 3-time silver medallist, two-time Cup winner.
He was included in the list of 33 best footballers 9 times. He played 21 matches in the national team. He was a member of the Olympic team. Participant of the final stages of three World Championships (1962, 1966, 1970). Semifinalist of the 1966 World Cup.
Serebryanikov is a pupil of Zaporozhye Metallurg. The 19-year-old striker was invited to Dynamo by the head coach of Kyiv Vyacheslav Soloviev. He knew him from the youth national team, which he once coached. Next to Kanevskiy, Biba, Bazilevich, Lobanovskiy the 19-year-old debutant did not get lost. Dynamo number eight was distinguished by his ability to work, good speed, technique, understanding with partners, virtuoso performance of free kicks.
A signature move
Not every great football player can boast of his "signature" move. Victor had such a technique - it was the famous "Serebryanikov arc". He so performed free kicks that the ball rounded the lined up "wall", and then, when it seemed that the ball flew above the goal, he sharply went down and as if magnetised to the nine of the goalpost dropped it there. Such blows "Silver", so fondly called his fans, caused delight in the stands. Many of his goals Serebryanikov scored from the standards of his trademark "arc".
In 1969 in the European Cup matches he scored with such a blow to the goalkeepers of "Austria" and "Fiorentina". Especially gorgeous was his goal against the reigning Italian champion from the corner of the penalty area Dynamo player scored accurately and gracefully, as if a jeweller does his work.
In the national team Serebryanikov scored goals in Belgrade, Brussels, San Salvador.
Paris "arc"
Victor demonstrated his last arc in Paris, on the field of "Stade de France" in a friendly match between veterans of the national teams of France and the USSR. At the post-match banquet, the famous French striker who scored 13 goals at the World Cup in Sweden, Juste Fontaine, approached him and asked the question:
"How old are you colleague?"
"50".
"It's unbelievable at that age and playing so well. Congratulations."
Once taking another interview with Serebryanikov, I asked him a question:
- How did your arc come about?
- I didn't come up with it myself. Having once been at a training session of the Brazilian ball wizards, I saw this "arc". I tried to repeat it myself. For several months at our base in Nivki stayed after training and practised this shot. Over time it became more and more frequent and accurate. Kyiv fans called it "arc".
I thought, who prevents the current players from mastering Serebryanikov's "arc", Lobanovsky's "dry sheet". Is there not enough time? Desire and diligence? Or not everyone has such a gift.
10 June 1970 in a match with the national team of El Salvador at the World Cup in Mexico Serebryanikov received a severe injury, which forced him after some time to put a cross on a brilliant football career.
Since 1971 Viktor Petrovich worked in the football school of FC Dynamo. Then one season he coached "Frunzenets" (Sumy) and two seasons "Niva" (Podhajtsy).
Over the years Serebryanikov became sick and weak. He did not always follow the regime. On the 12th of November 2014 Viktor Petrovich left this world. He is buried in Berkovets cemetery, near the central entrance. On the grave slab of one of our most talented and successful footballers there are always flowers from grateful fans.
