In the 86th minute E. Demirovic scored a goal, giving the fans hope. With the score 2:1 Augsburg tried to equalise the score until the final whistle. Towards the end of the match the tension in the game increased, which led to several yellow cards shown by the referee. R. Gumni, S. Michel and E. Demirovic from Augsburg, as well as J. Muller and L. Pfeiffer from SV Darmstadt 98 were sent off for their offences. In the last minutes both teams made another substitution, trying to secure the victory. T. Breithaupt replaced F. Jensen from Augsburg, and L. Pfeiffer and M. Melem replaced F. Hornby and A. Muller from SV Darmstadt 98. M. Honsack and K. Riedel also came into the game, replacing T. Skarke and T. Kempe respectively. When the final whistle sounded, SV Darmstadt 98 earned a deserved 2-1 victory over Augsburg. The match demonstrated the competitiveness and determination of both teams, providing an exciting Bundesliga encounter for the fans gathered at the WWK Arena.
