Former midfielder of Kyiv "Dynamo" Florin Cernat spoke about the level of discipline that existed in his former team under the legendary Valeriy Lobanovskyi.
“Under Lobanovsky there was a rule: when he sat down in the bus, no one could enter after him, the doors of the bus closed and it left.
There was one story on this topic with the team's central defender, Sergey Fyodorov. The bus was parked right in front of the hotel. Lobanovsky walked out of the hotel, got into the bus. We thought, as always, he was the last. But then Fyodorov ran from the hotel. The bus door closed in front of his nose. And the bus left.
As a result, Fyodorov arrived at the stadium in his car. It was about a 15-minute drive to the stadium. He participated in the match, no one said anything to him. But the next day — a fine and transfer to the second team.
For Lobanovsky, discipline was law. You could be the most talented, but if you didn’t stick to the rules, the team schedule, then your talent didn’t matter at all.
Before each training session, we had our blood pressure and weight measured. Any extra kilogram — a fine of 100 dollars,” Cernat's words are cited by iAMSsport.
