The day before, just before the New Year, another 140 defenders of Ukraine were freed from Russian captivity.
Among the defenders of Ukraine released from captivity is the officer of the State Border Service, lieutenant colonel Serhii Shevchuk, brother of the sports director of "Veres" Vyacheslav Shevchuk.
— After the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, Serhiy defended Mariupol from the invaders. Later, together with our other defenders, he held the defense of Azovstal. Later, together with other Ukrainian prisoners of war, he ended up in Olenivka. All this time I tried to get information about him and his condition from different sources. My brother is a father of four. The whole family was very worried about him. After reporting today's POW exchange, I saw him in a photo among the released. Lost 30 kilograms. But alive. This is the most important thing. I have not yet spoken to him personally. But he already informed his parents, his wife and children about the good news, Vyacheslav said.
