The head coach of the Ukrainian national team, Sergey Rebrov, compared the pressure he faces in clubs and the national team.
— If compared to «Dynamo», the pressure is the same. «Dynamo» was my first experience, and the pressure was already much greater. Compared to other countries — yes, it’s a completely different matter.
But even if we distract from criticism in general, working with the Ukrainian national team at any time is a great responsibility for any coach. And I feel it too, but it definitely doesn’t prevent me from working.
I focus on work when it’s needed, when we gather with the players. I have no doubts, we are doing our job and doing our utmost for our national team.
— So there are no thoughts like: “Wow, I’ve never experienced such pressure before,” when there is a lot of criticism directed at you?
— I’ve worked in Hungary, Saudi Arabia, and the Emirates. Unfortunately, I didn’t understand the language. Hungarian is a very difficult language, I worked there for three years and only knew a few words. The same with Arabic.
It is much harder to work in Ukraine because you understand people, you understand their state. People need these emotions. Unfortunately, in some matches we have not added positivity, and they project all this onto the players and coaches.
I understand everything, I just feel sorry for the players who come and give their all. Unfortunately, not all players are ready for such pressure when there is a war, and you have a very big responsibility.
