Rukh Lviv head coach Vitaliy Ponomaryov summed up the results of his team's 1-1 match with Shakhtar Donetsk in the 8th round of the Ukrainian Premier League yesterday.
"I have positive emotions, because we forced Shakhtar to make a mistake, and Rukh dominated the whole game. Of course, our team also made mistakes, because the guys lack experience in positional play and still need to work on it. Our task for today is to build a high-quality and competitive team. We wanted to win, but we failed to convert our chances. However, psychologically, Rukh definitely won and I am satisfied with what the team has shown.
I think that Shakhtar's sending off of Rakytskyi was fair. I would also like VAR to have scored Pastukh's goal, I believe there was no offside - it was a clean goal.
I'm glad that our young players take to the pitch against such an opponent and show a good level. Even when we played at full strength, Rukh outplayed Shakhtar, we dominated the pitch. After the sending off, I wanted the team to play more calmly and play a quality positional game. Sometimes some players were in a hurry and there was uncertainty in their actions. But this is a good experience, because our young people have room to grow.
I thank the guys for this game, because we completely outplayed Shakhtar. The team is being built for the future and there is a systematic development. The players need confidence and experience, which they get in such games against the giants," Ponomarev said.
