Former UEFA delegate and well-known referee Konstantin Vihrov commented on the high-profile episode of yesterday's match of the 8th round of the Ukrainian championship between Lviv Rukh and Shakhtar Donetsk (1:1), in which the Pitmen's defender Yaroslav Rakitskiy received a red card in the middle of the first half.
"I carefully watched the moment of the fight for the ball between Rakitskiy and Kvasnica from several angles and I believe that the Shakhtar centre-back received the red card correctly. There was not a bounce, but a jump into the opponent's legs and after touching the ball he was hit in the leg, which is a dangerous offence and is punishable by a red card.
The very word bounce speaks about the action of the player - the player slides on the turf when taking the ball, and jumping into the opponent's legs is an action prohibited by the rules.
Also, in my opinion, the goal scored against Shakhtar was cancelled incorrectly, the Pitmen's defender was on the same line with the attacking players, but the defender's hand and foot were closer to the Shakhtar goal.
I was able to discuss these moments with my colleagues in the refereeing corps, they agree with my opinion, which is stated above," Vihrov said.
