England's Sunderland midfielder Jack Diamond has been found not guilty of rape, Sky Sports reports.
The 23-year-old footballer was charged with rape and assault in connection with an intimate incident that took place back in the spring of 2022. Diamond was voluntarily visited by a girl he met on the Tinder app. A short time later, the pair engaged in consensual sexual activity, but then, as the prosecution claimed, the girl expressed a desire to go to bed and the footballer allegedly raped her.
However, following the trial, Newcastle Crown Court yesterday found Diamond not guilty on both counts. It only took the jury a few minutes to reach a verdict.
After the verdict was announced, Diamond wept openly with his arms around his head.
Amidst the scandal, Sunderland suspended their midfielder last spring. Since last March, Diamond has not appeared on the field. How now the fate of the midfielder in his club, it is not clear yet.
