The Serie A betting scandal continues to grow. The La Repubblica newspaper claims that more than a dozen Italian players were involved in the investigation.
On Thursday, it was initially reported that Juventus footballer Nicolo Faggioli was under investigation for betting on an illegal platform, which he later admitted to prosecutors in Turin. He willingly gave the police his phone, which quickly expanded the scope of the scandal.
Newcastle's Sandro Tonali and Aston Villa's Nicolo Zagnolo were the next two players suspected of involvement, and both left the Italian national team's compound after being questioned by police.
La Repubblica also details how the investigation has identified more than a dozen Serie A players, including one of Faggioli's Juventus teammates, who allegedly placed bets on the illegal platform.
The investigation has been ongoing for several weeks into the anomalous bets made by the criminal group. Faggioli's €100,000 bets over the past 18 months were discovered by chance. The scandal is growing rapidly and threatens to result in several players being banned from football for up to three years.
