Neil McFarlane, Brentford's second team manager, commented on the outcome of the friendly match against Ukraine.
"The match against Ukraine was the most tremendous event in the history of Brentford's second team. It was the strongest opponent we have ever played against. It was an exceptional match for the youth. In addition, the team was strengthened by two first-team players, Jansson and Da Silva.
In the first half we tried to possess the ball, but we conceded after a corner, which particularly disappointed us. In the second half we were very compact, but in the last 20 minutes of the game the Ukrainians showed class. Our goalkeeper Ben made some great saves. We had some chances, too - the game was pretty open.
It's an unbelievable experience for our guys to be up against players like Mudrik. Mudrik is excellent both with and without the ball. We were able to see that firsthand. We had to work hard to create our own chances at the other team's goal. It was one of the most difficult matches. I am proud of my guys, everyone at the club should be proud of them for the way they handled the game.
We wish Ukraine all the best. Ukraine is a country that has been through a lot lately. We were happy to see them on Jersey Road during training sessions. The fact that the Ukrainian side asked Brentford to play against them speaks volumes about where we are and where our club as a whole is. "We really wish the best for Ukraine," McFarlane said in a comment to Brentford's official website.
